We all have those “I WANT TO BE BLONDE” moments at least once in our lives and the lovely Collette was no exception, unfortunately this resulted in patchy blonde hair with yellow/orange blotchy lines (tiger stripes). This is quite a common but unfortunate result. When I first meet Collette she was unhappy with the state of her hair, she had previously had a full head of foils, which turned out patchy and orange/yellow and was having significant hair breakage. After a lengthy consultation we decided a full head of fine highlights would be the best course of action to blend her 2-inch regrowth and break the blotchy lines of demarcation. Because Collette had so many split ends I decided a regrowth application of color would be to most gentle on the hair as the powder lightener would only touch the hair that has had minimal color and is least damaged. Using ½ CM sections and fine weave highlights I lifted Collette’s hair from a dark brown to a pale blonde, using Keune Powder lightener (bleach) and with a very low Peroxide Developer we were able to lift the colour very slowly minimising any colour damage as well as using the Olaplex treatment within the Powder lightener, using very small sections and fine weaves we were able to break the blotchy lines and lift out most of the yellow and orange from the hair.
When we remove the highlights at the basin you can still see a yellow tone, this is what we refer to as “raw colour” it is the underlying pigment in the hair that is showing through at this stage of the process. All hair has some form of underlying pigment even white grey hair when bleached will go a pale yellow, black hair when bleached will go red first then orange then yellow. This is a long process of time and patience to go from one to another.
When the foils have been removed carefully out of the hair the product is rinsed off straight away, color is constantly processing and this is something a lot of people don’t realize, from the moment the two products are mixed together the clock has started and it is very important not to exceed the time frame as this can cause significant damage to the hair. Fanola NO YELLOW is a toning shampoo, which I used to remove the Powder lightener it deposits a purple pigment onto the hair to neutralize some of the yellow that you can see. It is not strong enough to remove the entire yellow showing so using a professional toner we neutraliased the rest to create a creamy blonde. This process was repeated twice as the ends of the hair were extremely dry and took the toner almost instantly. The roots were toned separately to the rest of the hair to get an even result and followed with a second application to blend seamlessly, I used Keune and Olaplex throughout this entire process to ensure that the hair was nourished and shiny and kept as strong as possible. Collette was amazed at the transformation I was able to achieve.

Welcome to my blog, my name is Julie and I'm the owner of Juliette Hair Boutique, once a year we like to give back to our clients by throwing a party to show our appreciation for their loyalty and commitment to our salon. This year our theme was "LOVE IS IN THE HAIR" and it was a great success, the idea was basically to educate my clients on how to achieve salon quality looks at home. We created a Facebook poll to find out what our clients were really interested in and picked a few styles from the poll to demonstrate on the night. BOUNCY BLOWDRY was one of the main ones we wanted to demonstrate as it's a great day to night look and with lots of body you could even get a few days out of it with a bit of dry shampoo, I wanted to make the night really informative but not too long so I used a doll to demonstrate the technique but showed the end result with a live model which you can view on our YouTube video of the night, another reason I wanted a live model for the final result was because a lot of my clients want temporary solutions to cover their grey regrowth in-between salon visits, so showed a variety of sprays in natural shades on my live models grey regrowth so you can see the difference each shade will make. My preference is to use Magic Retouch spray in a shade lighter than your normal colour as it will blend better and not leave a residue.
Our next demonstration was BEACH WAVES, which is perfect for day old hair to give a bit of body and texture. I used a one inch barrel in random sections and curled only the mid lengths leaving the ends out and straight, alternating curling the hair in different directions to give maximum texture making sure the front sections curl away from the face to give a beautiful wave. After curling I sprayed hair with a sea salt spray and scrunched into hair on the mid lengths and ends, careful to avoid too much product on roots. To finish I used a liquid wax to add texture and shine but minimal weight I scrunched this into the mid lengths and ends avoiding the roots. Our final demonstration of the night was a MESSY BUN, I hope you can see the progression from one to the other as this can be translated into daily life: DAY 1 - BLOW DRY DAY 2 - BLOW DRY +DRY SHAMPOO or BEACH WAVES DAY 3 - BEACH WAVES DAY 4 - MESSY BUN DAY 5 - WASH HAIR start the cycle again. The idea of doing a messy bun is to look effortless and usually we are limited with time. To start, dirty hair or hair with lots of product is ideal, as it will hold the shape you give it much better than clean silky hair will. I would usually start with spraying a good bit of brush out hairspray through the hair and use my fingers to pull back into a ponytail and secure by wrapping an elastic band around the hair. Once in place I use my fingers to rake through the top to create texture and not be to uniform, add doughnut padding (if very fine hair you can buy mini padding from children sections) over pony and split pony section into two. Twist one section tight and spray well with hairspray and let set, slowly and in small sections I release bits from the twist and wrap around padding, secure with pins making sure to cover as much of the pacing as possible. Repeat with next section, a good spray of hairspray for good luck a give your head a bit of a shake if anything feels loose add another pin to the area. To end our fun filled night we gorged on Pizza and all kinds of yummy foods and of course had to have some bubbles & made sure everyone took home their gift bags which included some mini products to try and a few helpful hair tools so that they could try their styles right away. We also like to put a draw together so everyone has a chance to win some major swag, the main prize this year was a whole hair care regime to the value of $149.95 which included a shampoo and conditioner as well as a serum to soothe those flyway’s and a thermal protectant spay so that you can style your hair with minimal damage, and my personal favourite was a mini travel dryer so you can jet set and look fabulous at the same time. Congrats to Jasmine for winning first prize. If you would like to know about us and our events, like and follow us on Facebook. |
